Twenty years after a biotech mogul unleashed a global invasion of genetically modified wasps to “reset” humanity and preserve an elite, Quebec and Ontario are now nothing more than an archipelago of entrenched strongholds. Swarms dominate the daytime, harvesting human blood to feed a vampiric fungus that transforms it into hemomectar (the energy-rich substance that serves as the wasps’ vital fuel), and reproduce through larvae implanted in prisoners.

In Montreal, Toronto, and the Thousand Islands, survivors organize themselves, while Jack tries to reach his family, who have taken refuge on an island in Lake Ontario. When a researcher discovers that small parasitic worms can weaken the wasps, hope for a reversal emerges… but the intervention unleashes hungry hosts who, by consuming the hemomectar, become cannibalistic symbiotes. The war against insects then turns into a conflict between humans and symbiotes.
