Writer & Entomologist

Charles-Étienne Ferland is the author of the novels Dévorés (bestseller), Métamorphoses (Trillium Award finalist), Max d’Exxila, the short story collection Une dent contre l’ordinaire, and the piano album Microcosmes. His books have generated a hundred media articles. Since 2024, he donates at least 3% of his royalties to organizations for social and environmental justice.

After earning a master’s degree in insect ecology from the University of Guelph (2017-2020), he collaborated with CÉROM (2019-2020), the Natural History Museum of Denmark | Bugdex (2020-2023), the Insectarium de Montréal on projects pertaining to insect ecology, participatory science and conservation of urban biodiversity (2023-2026). By day, he works as a project manager in the fight against climate change at the Quebec Council for the Development of Agriculture. By night, he writes tall tales.

He is the recipient of three grants from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Léon-Provancher award from the Société d’entomologie du Québec. In his free time, he enjoys playing go, practicing karate, and going on birdwatching hikes.
